When you try to activate a product, you see:
This error means the product doesn't recognize the serial you've entered. There are usually two causes.
1. You're using the license ID instead of the serial number
A license ID looks similar to a serial key but can't be used to activate a product. Check that you're entering the serial number and not the license ID.
2. The serial doesn't match the product or version you're activating
A serial number only works with the product and version it was issued for. For example:
- A SQL Prompt serial can't activate SQL Source Control
- A license that's only entitled to v10 can't activate v11
You can find your license information and serial numbers in the customer portal.
Serial numbers are no longer shown by default in the portal, so click the Licenses tab and switch to the old licensing view:
Then click the tool you need and you will find your serial number under the Serial Numbers tab.
