Hi Brian,
Thank you for identifing a work around. I have already dealt with it manually.
I posted it so your team might be able to identify a way to enhance your tools to handle this situation...
A chance for improvement...

ok, but I am not seeing the value of such a list, for my actual use i got a list about a dozen entries long, that repeated... There is not enough detail to make sense of what is being shown.
What am I meant to learn from this display?
What decisions is it helping me make?
What advise is it giving me to be apply the tool to my compare?
OR
Please give me the correct way to look at it.... / comments

That sounds great & useful. I will try it out.
1) It is not obvious (and I am an expreienced developer!)
2) This seems like a great oppurtunity for the 'Interactive Help' to give a developer a pointer...
3) When a list is hightlighted, and the intended/expected next action is Check/uncheck - is that then available on the right click menu? / comments

These suggestions have indeed been made before, over the last few years, by me, as well as probably others....
Maybe a multi-tab solution would work. But as for size/resources; these compare tools require some awareness of the effect of ones choices - by definition, so I think that this should not stop you putting more functions at users finger-tips...
Your concerns about a single IDE for these products has been mentioned before, but surely the solution to that, for the good points you make, have examples out there in the market. You could have an "pluggable" ide into which the purchased components would be installed, and only loaded into memory when used! Therefore again maximising the productivity of your users.
Thanks

2B)agreed- but a tooltip would still help.....
2C)difficult balance - but the whole idea of the new help is to be context sensitive - it is a waste if not specific....
2E)Thats fine, but somehow needs to be more obvious [i feel that this is important!] - maybe show it initially, but make it easy to configure it off, if users want the space. But remember this is really a false saving, as surely that last section is a major part of the purpose of the compare!!!
Thanks

I really agree and would like to add 2 more.
a) I would like to have indicator if there are more differences beyond where i am looking, this would be useful in a long proc. As with VSS etc.
b) I would like to have ability to know the line number i am looking at. This could be done by option to turn them on, information in a right click menu or in a status line. This would help to easily go find the line of interest in say Query analyser, otherwise it can be dificult to find the line in a long proc... / comments

Just curious, are you accepting my point - that things that I am not finding obvious are good candidates for further enhancement/use of your new Interactive help? (when you agree please say, and if not say also - so i know whether I need to offer more reasoning to convince you of the merrit of my observations.) - Thanks / comments

Ok I noticed that on a table compare. How does it show on a Stored Procedure or UDF compare?
Also maybe add more explaination in Interactive help for it... / comments
