Stuck in continuous log in loop when activating

If you're stuck in a continuous loop of logging in with your Redgate ID, this most commonly affects SQL Data Compare, SQL Compare, SQL Dependency Tracker, SQL Prompt, and SQL Source Control, though it can happen with other tools too. Here's what to try:

  1. Update the Redgate Client Service to the latest version.
  2. Open the application and when the browser launches, set Edge as the default.
  3. If that doesn't help, copy the web address from the browser pop up and paste it into an incognito tab (Ctrl+Shift+N) in Edge.

If you're still stuck, try the browser workaround:

  • Copy the URL from the browser window that's spinning in a loop.
  • Paste it into a different browser (Internet Explorer, Edge, or an incognito window).
  • You should now see the login window and be able to continue.

If none of this works, check that the licensing endpoints are allowed through your firewall. See Licensing & update URLs to add to your AllowList in firewall.

You can also activate using fallback:

  • Open SSMS
  • In a browser different from the one in which the licensing screen tries to open, navigate to http://localhost:22221/redgate/status.html
  • Next to the tool entry on that page click Activate Using Fallback
  • Follow the steps
