I did not attempt this in sql compare 5. Only via sql compare 6.
It is sql 2000. not 2005.
There is a linked server by that name. I had no idea there were linked servers on that box.
I will investigate more. / comments

on the third screen, it has a list of the objects that will be synced. This list is usually collapsed with the little plus sign next to it. I open this, so that i can see the final list of objects that are going to be synced. I dont look at the script, just the list of names. Its allways collapsed. It'd be nice if it were not collapsed... / comments

its been a while since i actually coded windows applications, seeing that i have taken the DBA route, but i do recall that you could capture specific keys and key combinations to perform certain tasks. The hot key is one thing. The focus of the enter button is another. I would think that typing would be another capturable event, recognizing letters that are not used in the hot key combinations, and that the typing is not the enter key, and route them to the search input control...
maybe im dreaming and remembering a reality that didnt exist...
but thanks for the reply / comments

i've spoken with some of the developers here, that are more up to date on winforms applications than myself. All of them think that intercepting the characters typed in, and differentiating between control chars and enter, is easily done. its tougher in a webpage, but not in winforms.
I would think you could do it.
I have thought that i may have to simply use the hot keys for the find box.. but wouldnt you know it, both hot keys for the two different screens are different... Alt+F on one, and Alt+D on the other...
i hate to beat a dead horse, but anything to save me keystrokes, or mouse movement, will improve my speed, and get me home earlier... / comments

I am not using IIS. I am using the SQL Monitor 4 Web Service.
I bounced the service, after reading this, hoping.
But nothing.
I could give you access to the site, if you would like to see. I wont give the password or link here though. Via email i would. / comments

it starts to download, then ultimately says 'Failed - Network error'
I have removed all other copies that I had downloaded, as none were executable. They all simply fail on startup.
I can try it from some other machine. outside work. I just only think about it while I am at work. / comments

I have received a copy that worked.
After bringing this up with our networking team, they slyly looked at each other, smirked, and both commented that it was probably the SonicWall firewall that was preventing it from being downloaded.
So, I suspect it was on my side, I was just caught unawares...
