We have the same issues. Because we also use COPYTO, we have tried various values for FILEOPTIONS ("5" being what we were told to use by tech support), including not using the FILEOPTIONS at all. We are still having files not deleting.
The file in question last weekend was on the local box. It was backed up with COPYTO another box. We could not delete the file manually because it was "in use", even though it was 2 weeks old! I was going to try taking the SQL Backup Agent Offline / Online, but when I tried to delete it first this morning, I was successful. (The SQL cluster and the Backup Agent had not rolled or been restarted.)
Our databases are over a TB, so sending them to you is not feasible. / comments

I have similar issues, but only when I am connected via VPN. Many times the GUI will hang my laptop while trying to start up. (After the splash screens, while waiting for the histories to come back from the defined connections.) This behavior consistently happens, and I only have a few servers registered.
Today I brought the GUI up while in the office, put my laptop into sleep mode, and brought it back up at home (VPN). After a period of time, the GUI reported "not enough memory" and died. (My laptop has 2 G of RAM and I had very little running at the time.)
From the office, I have no issues at all. / comments

I installed VisualBasic Power Pack 3.5 from this URL: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download ... x?id=25169
On my 64-bit machine, it installed it here: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Basic 2005 Power Packs\3.0
I copied the file to: C:\Program Files (x86)\Red Gate\SQL Source Control 3
Did not work in SSMS. Without removing the above copy, also copied it to: C:\Program Files (x86)\Red Gate\SQL Data Compare 10
Still did not work. I suppose I should also mention I shutdown SSMS each time. There was also a companion XML file which I also tried copying.

I had sent an email to Support before finding this thread. The "SQL Server Data Directory", while backward consistent, is not intuitive. I would expect to find the values SQL Server uses internally, as found in the registry keys HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\MSSQLServer\MSSQLServer\DefaultData and DefaultLog. This has caused considerable pain as new developers come on and start using the tool.
To answer Matthew's question, I would expect the existing file pathnames to be used when overwritting a database, which again has been a point of pain for me. / comments

I read posts in older versions where creating a new project solves the problem. A preliminary test proves this to be true, though I've only done limited testing (only a few tables, all with primary keys). If you don't hear more details from me later, then that is the fix. / comments

I am also on an evaluation copy (just changed jobs, this is the 4th company I'm introducing to Red-Gate [image] ).
My laptop is a 32 bit XP, the Source SQL Server is a 32 bit SQL 2005, the Destination is a 64 bit SQL 2008. The tool runs on my laptop.
SQL Data Compare errors out every time with "FieldMapping not valid for MatchingMappings." (Note the spacing.) There is no indication of which table is causing the issue. [This should be considered a design flaw; the generic message gives no assistance for potential work-arounds.] I have gone as far as selecting only one table that has a primary key, same failure. I've tried this in several databases.
It also appears the SQL Packager has issues. The Destination db's were created using SQL Packager, but the SQL Server's canned "Disk usage by Table" shows different record counts. (Hence the reason I attempted to use Data Compare.)
I saw the cumulative patch, but installing it had no effect.
Bottom line, this is making the tools look bad while I'm trying to convince the company to purchase them. With 350+ db's to migrate to a new hosting facility a thousand miles away, I would like the tools to perform in the typical stellar Red-Gate fashion. All help is appreciated. / comments
