Hi josefwallinger_vog
Please can you try uninstalling SQL Search and then reinstalling:
https://download.red-gate.com/checkforupdates/SQLSearch/SQLSearch_3.6.21.4852.exe
If this doesn't fix the problem, please can you provide the SQL Search logs? If you don't want to attach them to this post, please send them to support@red-gate.com referencing ticket number 321023. -
Hi @Victoria W ,
I have send the log files to the support address. -
Hello all, this issue is now resolved. To get past this sign-in screen, please do the following after creating a Redgate account:
1. Open up Visual Studio 2022
2. Using Chrome/Edge browser, navigate to http://localhost:22221/redgate/status.html
3. You should see SQL Search. Click "Activate here". A new tab should open up
4. Login under your Redgate ID
5. Return to Visual Studio 2022 and you should be licensed -
I am having a similar problem, but in my case, if I click on the Login button in VS 2022 (having installed the latest SQL Search version) I get the following error message:
Navigating to http://localhost:22221/redgate/status.html just results in a "localhost refused to connect" error.
I'm happy to provide logs.
Thank you for your attention to this message! -
Hi @Ann_Lewkowicz
Can you specific the exact version number of SQL Search and Visual Studio you're using?
Is the Redgate Client Service present and running in Services.msc? -
Hello, @chrisqtran,
Thank you for responding so quickly!
Here is the info you requested:Microsoft Visual Studio Professional 2022
Version 17.12.3
VisualStudio.17.Release/17.12.3+35527.113
Microsoft .NET Framework
Version 4.8.09037
Installed Version: Professional
SQL Search version:Redgate SQL Search 3.6.21.4852Regarding the Redgate Client Service, I do not see a service by that name at all in services.msc. I do not see any services that have "Redgate" in either their name or their description.
ETA: I have tried uninstalling SQL Search from VS and SSMS, rebooting, and then reinstalling, taking care to install as Administrator. It didn't make any difference. -
Hi, @chrisqtran,
Just wanted to make sure you saw my reply, above!
Thanks,
Ann L. -
Hi Ann,
I've tested the same Visual Studio and SQL Search versions and did not encounter any errors.
Can you specify what button you clicked to get the error message? -
@chrisqtran It was the LOG IN button on the upper right side, shown here:
-
Interestingly, the log shows a different error message:2024-12-17 17:16:45.674 -05:00 [Error] [RedGate.SQSearch.Addin.Utils]: Unhandled exceptionSystem.MissingMethodException: Method not found: 'Void RedGate.SIPFramework.Services.ServicesToPlugins.SsmsFunctionalityProvider..ctor(EnvDTE80.DTE2)'.at RedGate.SQLSearch.Addin.Tab.Controls.SearchTab.AddContextMenuButtons(Controller controller)at RedGate.SQLSearch.Addin.Utils.ErrorDialog.DoWithErrorHandling(ILog log, IWin32Window parentWindow, InvokerDelegate`1 toDo, EventArgs args) in
\BuildAgentA\work\5feaf6ffe92670d3\Source\SQLSearch\Utils\ErrorDialog.cs:line 276
-
I''ll try uninstalling my other extensions, see if that makes a difference.

Thank you, @Ann_Lewkowicz. I was able to replicate the error. I did not see the Log In button as I was already logged in.
Please do the following:
Download and install the Redgate Client Service (attached)
Verify in Services.msc that the Redgate Client Service is present and running.
Open up Visual Studio 2022
Using Chrome/Edge browser, navigate to http://localhost:22221/redgate/status.html
You should see SQL Search. Click "Activate here". A new tab should open up
Login under your Redgate ID
Return to Visual Studio 2022 and you should be licensed
