Can Test Data Manager access Azure Storage Containers for the database backup?

We are in the initial stages of determining if Test Data Manager will fill a need in our organization and a question which I have is, can Test Data Manager access / use database backup files (SQL Server) that are stored in an Azure Storage Container (backup to URL) as the "base" for a database?

Or, do the backup files to be used by TDM need to be in a file share somewhere on the network that the TDM service(s) have access to?

    Hi Jason_A, thank you for your forum post.

    Using this High Level Architecture diagram from our help documentation as a guide:

     
    Are you referring to the NFS/SMB file share located in the middle of the diagram?  Or the Database Backup location in the Production Environment on the left hand side of the diagram?

    For the cloning cluster (right side of the diagram) the backup files used to create the Cloning Data Images, need to be an accessible shared folder, which can be either an NFS or SMB file share. For NFS, NFS V3 and V4 are supported.  For SMB, all versions of SMB are supported.  The file share will be mounted into the application and the backup file will be read directly from there during the redgate Clone image creation operations.

    I think: You can restore the database from the Azure Storage backup files to a SQL Server instance and then use TDM (slope) to manage the data from that restored database. This involves downloading the backup files from Azure Blob Storage to a local or network-accessible location first.
