Sorry to hear you've run into this issue!
Recently a customer with the same issue was able to resolve it by uninstall and reinstall SQL Source Control. Could you kindly give it a try and let us know if problems persists?
What version of VS do you use in that machine? -

I am using VS2019 Professional v16.4.3 -
I re-confirmed that the problem still existed before I uninstalled, then I uninstalled SQL Source Control using the windows software settings facility, then downloaded and installed the current version from RedGate web site.It installed fine and then ran without throwing the error.
