Startup errors in SSMS

  I also uninstalled SQL Prompt 4 before installing SQL Prompt 5. I also saw the error regarding SQL Refactor 1.5. I also see SQL Prompt 5 in the SSMS menu, disabled.

  And me too. SSMS 2008 SP1 on Windows XP SP3 x86. Uninstalled version 4 prior to installing 5.0.0.224. When I run SQL Management Studio I get:

  The Add-in 'SQL Prompt 5.0' failed to load or caused an exception. Would you like to remove this add-in? If you choose yes, you will need to reinstall the Add-in to use it again.
  
  Error message: <Unknown error>
  Error number: 80131509

  Okay. I chose "Yes" on the error prompt and when SSMS opened the "SQL Prompt 4" menu was gone and "SQL Prompt 5" had appeared. On restarting SSMS I don't get the error message. SQL Prompt 5 is now working.
  
  So, to install the beta - not only must you uninstall SQL Prompt 4 via Control Panel, but you must say "Yes" to the error prompt that appears when you run SSMS.

  I'm using SSMS 2008 R2 on Windows Server 2003 R2.
  
  I uninstalled SQL Prompt 4.x and installed SQL Prompt 5.x.
  
  SSMS reported the same error as LanceAndrewes received:

  SQL Prompt 5.0 apparently loaded successfully -- at least into Visual Studio Team System 2008 (Version 9.0.30729.4462 QFE). The SQL Prompt 5.0 menu item is active, but the SQL Prompt 4.0 menu item, though disabled, still appears. Shouldn't this have been removed when I uninstalled SQL Prompt 4.0?

  SQL Prompt 5.0 initially did NOT appear at all in SSMS. My old SQL Prompt 4.0 menu item was active, but none of its available actions would complete.
  
  But, after rebooting and repairing the SQL Prompt 5.0 installation, I was able to proceed.
  
  I then also received the error message about SQL Refactor.

  I answered "Yes" and proceeded. Both SQL Prompt 5.0 and SQL Refactor 1.5 are available and working now in SSMS.

  Same here with SQL Server 2005.
  
  Uninstalled SQL Prompt 4 + install SQL Prompt 5 + start SSMS + click yes to exception message + SQL Prompt 4 still in the menus of SSMS + SQL Prompt 5 NOT in the menus of SSMS

  I am running SQL 2008 R2 Developer Edition. I uninstalle Prompt 4 before installing Prompt 5. I am running SLQ Refactor 1.6, since it is the onl one that runs with SQL 2008 R2. Anything else you want to know?

  Thanks for the feedback everyone! We've realised that some configurations do not support side-by-side installations of SQL Prompt 5 and SQL Refactor.
  
  To try out SQL Prompt 5, please uninstall SQL Refactor first. You may need to uninstall and re-install SQL Prompt 5 too.
  
  Note that every feature in SQL Refactor will eventually become part of SQL Prompt 5 Pro. Smart Rename, Split Table and Format SQL are already included.

  Okay, so now my SQL Refactor is broken and I can't get it back. I uninstalled every Red-Gate product on my computer and then reinstalled the latest SQL Toolbelt, with various reboots involved, and I STILL get the "The addin 'SQL Refactor 1.3' failed to load or caused an exception...." error. My menus in SSMS correctly show just SQL Refactor and SQL Prompt 4. SQL Prompt works fine. Very frustrating for the EAP to break a different product to this level. Where do I turn for help?
