I know this thread is close to 2.5 years old but I am running into the same error on SQL Compare Version 12.3.3.4490 and it is preventing me from comparing databases at all.  Additionally I cannot perform a manual update of SQL Compare 12.  I am not sure if the two issues are related. / comments
