Hi,
Are you interested in the failed backups (IE is this something we should look at on the activity grid) or in failed job runs (IE somthing we should look at for the jobs grid)?
Thanks,

Hi Giggl
The jobs failures tab has been replaced by the Jobs tab and activity history tab which report failures as well as successes when you have the v5 server components installed as well as any error messages which were reported during the backup (on the properties window).
Revamped inactivity alerts will be back in the final release, unfortunately the revamped code for them didn't quite make it into the beta - similarly the log shipping wizard is not in the beta but will make a return in the final release.
Thanks for the great feedback so far.

Hi Giggles,
I have reproduced this exception and it happens when some activity is happening on a 4.6 server and the v5 GUI attempts to check the current activity. I have fixed this on our internal build.
Unfortunately there is no workaround at this second other than to use servers with the v5 server components only or use a server with not too much activity so the GUI doesnt crash as much.
Thanks for finding this bug.

Hi Giggles,
We have just release Backup 5 Beta Refresh 1, it is availible from the same location as the last installer and fixes the issue you found. Before you use the new beta please fully uninstall the first beta as the upgrade in the installer does not work between the two betas.
Thanks once again for the heads up about the bug.

Hi,
I have just been trying to reproduce this error - off the top of my head it doesnt look like it has anything to do with clicking properties but is more to do with some background refresh which is happening at the same time - most likely some point at which we are asking the server for any inprogress backups its running.
Does it happen often - IE is it a reproducable crash? How long has the GUI been open before it happens? or is it always when you click properties for that activity history?
Once again thanks for the feedback.

Hi Dsteyer,
This looks like a false positive, the file mentioned in the report is a file created by data compare to store your data from your sql server locally on disk during comparison so there must be some series of data in your database which contains the same signiture as that virus.
If you store any exe's/images in binary form in your database then I suggest you give them a scan somehow otherwise I wouldn't worry about it as that file is document safe (IE nothing from it is ever executed by SQL Data Compare) it is just used as local storage during the comparison and display of results.
Hope this helps,
- James

Hi there,
I'm sorry to say that at this time I have no information on the pricing structure for version 5. Any pricing changes, if there are any, will be announced closer to the release date as and when any firm decisions are made.
Thanks,

Hi Gunneyk,
The engine components do use SQL Server Compact Edition for extended data collection about backups (in a similar way to how JET works) and requires no installation by you.
SQL Server Compact Edition "runs" in the service's process space with the same priviliges as the SQL Backup process so should not affect any other processes or installations.
It is the same as us having an external dependency on any other DLL. The warning is there at this time as it was part of our agreement with Microsoft to get a license for SQL Server Compact Edition so we could run the SQL Backup beta at this time.
If the service using SQL Server Compact Edition as an embedded database raises serious issues for you then I would be interested in hearing them and looking at ways we can allievate any problems before the final release.
However just to clarify there are no pre-requistes to install before running our installer.
Many thanks,
- James

Hi there,
SQL Backup could be used to do this if you backed up and then restored an empty database - then you would just have a backup of the schema with no data in it.
However you might also want to look at some of our other products which could help you in this situation - SQL Compare would allow you to immediately generate a creation script for the schema of the whole database by comparing your template database against a blank database - SQL Packager will take this a step further and create an executable which will deploy your database for you. You can find more information about both of these products at the following URLS: http://www.red-gate.com/products/SQL_Compare/index.htm http://www.red-gate.com/products/SQL_Packager/index.htm
If you have any questions about either of these products or which might suit you better then please feel free to post in this forum or one of the other product forums or get in contact with our sales guys (sales@red-gate.com or 1-866 733 4283/+44 (0)870 160 0037) and they should be able to answer any presales questions you have.
Hope this helps,
