The next suggetsion we have is to check the SQL Server ERRORLOGs... Te reason why it crashes waiting for data could be that SQL Server is killing the SPID of the restore process. Checking for errors on the server-side, rather than the client-side would probably be worth a shot. / comments

Ok, so I'm doubting that that is the cause of the problem then.
I'm still working under the assumption that it is a network problem though- so are you restoring to a network drive?
I did some googling of that error message and found this: http://blog.sqlauthority.com/2008/04/10 ... df-part-2/
Could this apply in your situation?

For now, can I just ask- is drive "g:" mapped to a network drive?
If so, is that connection relaible at the moment? / comments

Thanks for that - good to know. These kind of symptoms usually mean the software has been built with licensing components that detect any kind of "interference" from external sources. The profiler works in "instrumentation" mode which means it injects code into the running process- third party licensing dlls sometimes will detect this and crash the program deliberately. / comments

Are you able to send any profiling results to: support@red-gate.com
I'll take a look and see if there's any optimisation that can be done. / comments

We looked at the dump and we now think this is an issue that we believe happens when we encounter a value type that the CLR has not loaded yet but we haven't been able to reproduce this.
Would you be prepared to send your project over so we can reproduce? I know that's asking a lot! / comments

We're happy to receive mini-dumps from windbg. If you just let us know the exact profiling version you used. When you're ready, if you email support@red-gate.com I'll give you a ftp folder to upload to.
In the meantime, I can see if we already have fixed that issue. / comments
