Official commentGood Morning James,
Thanks for reaching out to Redgate Support, sorry to hear you are having some performance issues with SQL Prompts Open in Excel Feature. I am likely going to have to reproduce this locally if we are to have this remediated and I have not been able to reproduce the behavior just yet. If you wouldn't mind, what version of OS/SSMS/SQL Prompt are you utilizing so I can investigate?

In version 11.5 Open In Excel gives an unexpected error.

I also ran into the same issue with the latest version of SQL Prompt. Uninstalling the latest version and reinstalling 11.4.2 brought the “Open in Excel” functionality back…

The latest SQL Prompt release – 11.5.1.26824 – does fix the error being thrown by “Open in Excel” functionality. Thanks Redgate!

FWIW, the speed at which the Excel workbook is generated and opens on my Windows 10 desktop is back to normal now.

I use the “Open in Excel” feature in Excel frequently and have noticed that it seems to be much slower in recent releases of SQL Prompt.
Anyone else notice this change? Is there an explanation for why it's slower?
Thanks,
James
