Hi Steven Perry. Thanks for reaching out to Redgate Support, I do believe that our Flyway product recently started supporting the .json data type for some database types. (I believe it was mysql db type for the first example I saw) However I have not seen this capability propagated to SQL Data Compare quite yet in my recent testing.
I would submit an entry on our User Voice page for SQL Data Compare to request this feature be added: https://redgate.uservoice.com/forums/147879-sql-data-compare?query=json
I will also escalate this internally and if I hear more will update further details here.

My enterprise data model leverages the SQL column type of JSON. Unfortunately, it appears that SQL Data Compare does not recognize this column type and errors out with the message
Field Permission doesn't know type [sys].[json]
.Are there any know work arounds for this issue? When will the red-gate tools support the JSON datatype?
