Hi

I can log into a remote SQL Server Express 2008 database (across a VPN) with SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) without problems, but SQL Compare 8 is complaining of a network error: Provider, error 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server.

I'm using Windows Authentication in both cases. The remote database is on a sub-domain in the Active Directory forest, but that's not worrying SSMS.

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks

I've worked it out. I hadn't applied the correct user permissions to the particular database, so I was being locked out. The 'network error' was a red herring.
