Un-install SQL Prompt v4 and re-enable V3

How do I remove SQL Prompt v4?

The notes indicate that "SQL Prompt v4 does not work in parallel with v3.x.
Installing SQL Prompt v4.0 will disable v3.x. To re-enable v3.x, uninstall v4. "

I have Un-installed SQL Prompt v4 using the control panel, but when I go into SSMS (2008), SQL Prompt 4 still shows up.

    Try this.
Mouse over the tool bar and right click > Customize

When the Customize dialog box opens drag the SQL Prompt Button off the tool bar and drop it anywhere. It should be gone next time you start.

    Has work for me.

    Thanks,

That gets rid of version 4, or at least the menu option for it, but does not re-enable version 3. It is still installed but does not show up. I was hoping to avoind re-installing version 3, but may have to try that.

I'm sorry you're having problems with the downgrade process. There may be one more thing to try before reinstalling version 3; there is a repair option. If you find the prompt v3 entry in "Add or Remove Programs" then click "Click here for support information" and hit "Repair", that may fix things.

If not then I would suggest trying the reinstall, and if even that doesn't work I can walk you through some things which should fix the install.

Also, to help me look into fixing this problem for future versions could you give me some more information:

    - Which version of v3 did you have installed? [You can find this in support information in add or remove programs]
    - Which version of Windows, SSMS/Visual Studio/Query Analyzer are you running?
    - Have you had previous versions of SQL Prompt installed?
    - Do you have any other add-ins installed for SSMS/Visual Studio?

It would also help if you could have a look in the install directory and see whether Prompt 4 has removed itself.

    Many thanks

We have some suggestions on how to downgrade SQL Prompt on our knowledge base. Uninstalling should work, and often it does, but in some cases the registry needs to be modified to prevent SSMS from loading the 4.0 add-in.

The repair option fixed it, thanks.

SQL Prompt v3.9.3.303 is the version that is installed.
    SSMS (2008) version 10.0.1600.22
Yes, there was another version3 installed, not sure which. This is a new laptop, so it would have been the latest available for download. The version above was the one released to help with VPN issues.
    No other add-ins are installed.

Version 4 did remove itself. I had to remove the menu option from SSMS though.

I may try version 4 (EAP) again if an update is released that fixes some of the issues with syntax error checking and supports linked servers; otherwise I’ll probably wait for release. Lack of linked server support is the one thing I can’t live without.

    Thanks again for the support,

    Shawn.
