Did Redgate make a change to how ..\SQL Monitor\SearchEngine\SqlQueries are retained?

Since deploying last weeks SQL Monitor changes (12.1.21 or 20), I have noticed that I have gotten low on disk space from the C: drive of a number of my base monitors.  In tracking down what is consuming the space, I have seen a big jump in the amount of space retained in the SqlQueries folder.  I am now seeing a total of files greater than 25GB on a base monitor.  My question, is this by new design?  Or is it now not properly cleaning up older files?

I am seeing the same thing so I assume this is by design. I would like to know if the path where this data is stored can be moved and if so how to do it.

    Hi all,

The Top Query search functionality has been out of preview since v12.0.0 and that is what is adding files to that folder.  It should only grow if you are monitoring a lot of new and different queries though I did see a ~2-3% increase in the space used after I updated from 12.1.19 to 12.1.22.

You can set the folder location by following the steps on this page https://documentation.red-gate.com/sm/sql-server-performance-and-activity-monitoring/dashboards-and-overviews/server-overview-pages/performance-diagnostics-queries-and-waits/top-queries/configuring-top-query-search

Also, the data retention period for the folder is synced with the data it is used to query, which is the Top Queries data, and that is why the Top query search data element is greyed out on the Configuration > Data settings page as it will be what the row above is set to.

    Kind regards,
    Alex

    Hi @tonypaten,

Top Query Search can be configured to store its index files in a location other than the default of %ProgramData%\Red Gate\SQL Monitor\SearchEngine.

Please follow the instructions from Configuring Top Query Search.

    Kind regards,
    Greg

I get a 404 for the documentation link. How can this drive location be configured? I don't see any options in SQL Monitor 13.

Hi @spivonious, the page was moved as a result of some revamp of the documentation site after the release of v. 13. The new URL is Configuring Top Query Search.
