"object reference not set to an instance of an object" when comparing database clones

I have recently upgraded to SQL Compare version 14. Using previous versions of the software I was able to compare databases against database clones created using DBCC CLONEDATABASE. However, with the new version, if I try to do so with the new version registration of the database clone fails with the message: "object reference not set to an instance of an object" and no other information.
