Dependency Tracker load time

I get that data models and databases can all be different and large; I've selected specific tables and eliminated things like views, triggers etc. I am wondering how long it should load 30 tables or so? Its been loading for about 4hrs. All I can see is the Laying out diagram...

    Hi stoccp,

Four hours for 30 tables doesn't sound right - what version of SQL Dependency Tracker is this and what OS and SQL Server version is the database that contains the objects you are diagramming?

    Kind regards,
    Alex

    Hi @stoccp,

That will be the SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) version - the SQL Server version will be shown next to the instance name in the object explorer and is e.g. 14.0.3045.24 for the SQl 2017 CU13.

Also, what OS is this on?  And is SQL Dependency Tracker installed on the machine where SQL Server is or is it going across a network connection?

    Kind regards,
    Alex

    Hi @stoccp,

Very strange, it shouldn't take long at all - it takes a few seconds to populate the balloon tree for me for the SQL Monitor data repository which has three thousand or so objects on a similar setup (Win 10, SDT 3.1.1.1117, SQL 2016 SP2 - 13.0.52160.0).

Is there anything special about this database?  Does it take as long on a different database (i.e. if you create a new database with one table does it take a while)?

    Kind regards,
    Alex

    Hi @stoccp,

Please enable verbose logging and then get the log files as described on this page: https://documentation.red-gate.com/sdt3/troubleshooting/logging-and-log-files and I can have a look.  If you aren't able to share them on the forum I can arrange to get them from you.

    Kind regards,
    Alex
