The Redgate’s Hub is planned to launch within the next two weeks (currently NDA). We have taken on board the feedback I gathered from a handful of FoRGs, and have created something we think will be awesome. Before launch I’d like to bring you up to speed with it, and make sure you’re aware of why we’re doing this, and how I’d like you to be a part of it.
We’d like to give customers the best start possible when purchasing tools from Redgate but currently our resources are spread across different parts of the website, as well as the forums. We think we can improve the getting started experience for new customers, as well as building on the support and resources we already provide existing customers.
To solve this problem, we have built the Redgate hub. The hub is a way to bring these resources together for our customers, in one place, where it’ll be super easily to find product resources, advice and support, as well as technical articles, webinars and community events. As well as being a useful resource for customers, we want to grow the hub to be a vibrant, active community, where our customers want to visit and interact with us, and each other.
There is a great opportunity for all FoRGs to be involved in the Redgate hub. Your engagement in the hub may differ depending on how long you’ve been a FoRG, as well as how long you’ve been using Redgate tools. For example, you might want to write/produce content to share your knowledge of how you use Redgate tools, so that our customers can learn from your expertise. Or you might be more interested in visiting the hub to review the resources to advance your knowledge of certain Redgate tools you’ve not yet explored.
To start with the Redgate hub will launch with the existing content we have, but we’ll need your help to make it an active community, as well as support with creating new content:
- Posting discussions or replying to questions that are posted to the various product forums (example, from FoRG Torsten Strauss on SQL Prompt)
- Sharing your technical expertise of certain Data Platform topics by writing an article for Simple Talk (example, from FoRG Bob Walker on DevOps)
- Posting events that you’re speaking at or organising, so that our customers can join in, network and learn (this will be brand new)
Product content – Redgate’s Editor, Tony Davis, is working on the content strategy for each of the Redgate tools, and once this is finalised we’ll outline what sort of specific pieces we’ll be looking for. It’s likely we’ll need support with the following:
- Writing product blog posts or ‘how-tos’, to explain how you’ve solved a problem using a Redgate tool in the real world (previous example, from FoRG Ed Leighton Dick on SQL Clone)
- Producing video walk-throughs, showcasing how you or a client has benefited from using a Redgate tool (previous example, from FoRG Bob Pusateri on SQL Prompt)
The other thing of note is that the FoRG Google Group will be retired, and be replaced by a new private-forum on the Redgate Hub (here).
I’ll be taking the lead on raising awareness of the Redgate hub to our customers, and encouraging our communities to engage with the Redgate hub. I am therefore opening my doors to you, and calling for FoRG volunteers who want to get involved, and support me with this new challenge.
I hope you’ll see the Redgate hub as a great opportunity for you to use your expertise and experience to help others within the community to grow and learn. It’ll be a great way for you to give back!
It’s my mission to make the Redgate hub an active community hub with the aim of helping our customers on their way to success, and I look forward to working with many of you to make this happen.
Thanks all,
Annabel :-)
