Why so slow to cancel??

I just hit cancel when i realized it was starting to compare a log table that really should have been ignored.

But over a minute later its still "Cancelling". Why? I'm already tempted to kill the process...

    If it's in the middle of some interaction with the server, the program might need to wait until it can be sure it's properly closed the connection before returning control. Killing the process will almost certainly leave temporary files and possibly some unmanaged resources lying around taking up space / memory / connections.
