ZLib decompression error using sqb2mtf

When using sqb2mtf.exe (Version 5.0.0.2770) I receive the following error: Error converting file: ZLib decompression error: data error while trying to convert .sqb file to mtf files. I can use the GUI version sqb2mtfGUI.exe (Version 5.2.0.2782) to convert the same files without any problem or errors.
The backups were created using the free-trial version of SQLBackup downloaded on 5/23/2007 that I was using to evaluate the product. The backup files are encrypted using 256bit and compressed using level2.
Is this the correct version of sqb2mtf.exe to use with the free-trial software I downloaded or is there another reason for the error.
Thanks in advance.

    Hi,

I see you have run into a known issue with SQL Backup 5.0. SQB2MTF had a problem in that version, so you have two options: you can upgrade to 5.1 (use Check for Updates to do this) or you can convert through SQL Server using the SQLBACKUP stored procedure's CONVERT command. The usage for CONVERT is available in the documentation.

    Thanks!

I have a *.sqb file backed up that I want to restore to a SQL Server that doesn't have SQLBackup installed.

I have tried the backup both with and without encryption, but I get the same error.
Error converting file: ZLib decompression error: data error

    Backup details:
    compression level: 2
    Threads: 3
encryption: tried both with and without.

    I am using the sqb2mtf.exe from: http://downloads.red-gate.com/sqb2mtf.zip

    located on the utilities page.

I'm at a loss. Any insight would be much appreciated.

Just as lifecDBA experienced, the GUI version worked for me, but the command line version did not.

    GUI: http://labs.red-gate.com/index.php/SQL_ ... _Converter

Is the GUI version using different code? Is there just a bug in the command line version?

    Hi all,

If memory serves me, there was a bug in SQB2MTF 5.0 that would behave like this. It was quickly rectified in 5.1. You can download the latest SQB2MTF from Red Gate's utilities and prerequisites page:

Unfortunately the version listed on the prerequisities webpage is still the 5.0 version. There are two ways you can get hold of the 5.1 version:

    * Install the 5.1 version of SQL Backup, and then you can copy the sqb2mtf.exe file;
    * Alternatively, you can drop me an email (jason.cook@red-gate.com) and I'll send you the 5.1 version.

    Jason C.,
Thanks I got it. I assumed that the Red-Gate utilities page was the latest version.

The 5.1 version worked just fine. Wag of the finger to RG for not posting the most current version on the website! :D
