Hi Mike,
Again I'm sorry to say I'm at a bit of a loss with this: all my snippets are recorded and are available when I start a new session. Can you give me some specific examples of snippets you've added that have subsequently disappeared please? Also bear in mind that if you go to another tab in the Options dialog and then decide to hit Cancel any changes you've made to your snippets will be lost.
Thanks,
Bart -
Hi Bart
I added 2 for a test
ssf Select ** from
ii Insert into :?: :?:
The I used them in a query no problem , they appeared in Candidates list and worked
I then closed down ssms and poof they're gone !!
Can I saving them to a wrong file ?, where does the file live ? -
OK thanks, I'll look into it.

Hi Mike,
The snippets are saved here
%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Red Gate\SQL Prompt 3\SQL Prompt 3 Snippets.xml
Let us know if you find anything. There is at least one other person who seems to have the same problem.

Mike's issue I can kind of understand in that it looks like it's overwriting his customised snippet with the original default ssf snippet, however I'm slightly baffled by the fact that some people just don't seem to get a snippets file ever.
Thanks,

The three of the Red Gate's directory is:...\Red Gate\SQL Dependency Viewer 2.0 ...\Red Gate\SQL Prompt ...\Red Gate\SQL Prompt 3 ...\Red Gate\SQL Dependency Viewer 2.0\Application Settings.xml ...\Red Gate\SQL Prompt\Cache.OLD ...\Red Gate\SQL Prompt\Options.xml ...\Red Gate\SQL Prompt 3\078dc7c2c74342938a7aa2c0c55e9035.dbcache ...\Red Gate\SQL Prompt 3\10122b7c48fb4ec2bf55d05db3f906ad.dbcache ...\Red Gate\SQL Prompt 3\5b1ddeee7d15405bb442f9ada2d7ccc3.dbcache ...\Red Gate\SQL Prompt 3\69fba4316f7c4a0fb9fddef1935314aa.dbcache ...\Red Gate\SQL Prompt 3\99690a5bac8248d48cd14e330bf23d85.dbcache ...\Red Gate\SQL Prompt 3\a883d49c74a94de38c11583b86e9032f.dbcache ...\Red Gate\SQL Prompt 3\c8ff6f58a89e4387941af663d210b880.dbcache ...\Red Gate\SQL Prompt 3\efd72ed11aee46a3b83f8dbbe560d9ce.dbcache ...\Red Gate\SQL Prompt 3\EngineOptions.xml ...\Red Gate\SQL Prompt 3\f77d476cf5814016ab66f260630ccd38.dbcache ...\Red Gate\SQL Prompt 3\TrayApp.ini ...\Red Gate\SQL Prompt 3\UIOptions.xml
Please note that, although I have other directories (and the associated software installed), I only use SQL Prompt 3, I seldom use the other apps (actually I can't remember when was it that I used the Dependency Tracker).
Hope that helps.
P.S. If you see any weird extension (e.g. OLD) it's probably some kind of backup I made, for one reason or the other. -
User snippets do not get saved between sessions for me either.
Given that I also am having troulbe saving excluded servers (see http://www.red-gate.com/MessageBoard/viewtopic.php?t=3857), is this a more general problem?

Bart,
I don't know if this would be of use to you or not but I can give you a trace on the file requests where the path or file name contains "SQL Prompt 3" when I open QA with SQL Prompt enabled.
I used the SysInternals program Filemon to generate it.

Hi Alasdair,
Thanks, that would be extremely useful if you could do that please.
And thanks also to void for posting. From that directory structure it looks like we're never even attempting to save the snippets, or it's failing silently for some reason, which is very strange.
Many thanks,

A little more information. Alasdair has sent me his filemon log which has proved to be both illuminating and slightly baffling. It clearly shows that we check the attributes of the snippets file. This check fails because the file does not exist but we do not subsequently try to create the file. What makes this baffling is that we've never experienced this problem here, even on a completely clean machine.
I'll get back to you all again when I have more news.
Thanks,
Bart

All the pre config ones stay but any added thro the options "Add" function seem to diappear.
