Many of these anoyances/defects you identified were reported in the in the first few days of the Beta. The answer at that time was that they would incorporate the feedback into the final product.
Regarding the timebomb stuff, there was an item in the release notes that said the beta would expire on the 17th. See
http://www.red-gate.com/MessageBoard/viewtopic.php?t=3358 for details and beta wrap-up info.
They've said they will release the final to the beta testers when its available, but no word yet on if there will be a trial edition. -
Hi there,
Thanks, it looks like you've done most of my work for me on this one!
It's actually the release candidate that we'll be making available only to beta testers, at least initially. As per most other Red Gate products there will also be a 14-day fully functional trial of the product to allow you to evaluate it before purchasing.

Hi guys,
looking forward to an RC and the release - I sure hope those annoyances have been ironed out. As I said - I totally love the basic idea of SQL Prompt, but the current version is just more of a hindrance than a help to me in my daily dev life.

I really like the basic premise and idea behind SQL Prompt 3 - to provide database pros with intellisync in Query Analyzer and SQL Server Management Studio.
But I must say, the current version of SQL Prompt 3 keeps popping up in way too many cases, even when it's totally inappropriate, and it keeps filling in way too many things for my taste, when I never really wanted that - it's a good intention gone haywire.....
Also, for the past two or three days, I keep getting "Timebomb exceptions" all over the place - is there a new beta build out that would fix that??
For now, I've given up on SQL Prompt 3 - it gets in my way too often and causes grief and extra work - instead of saving me from having to type and remember stuff.....
I guess it would have to be a bit smarter, in my opinion: when I'm standing behing a SELECT statement, I don't want table names, view names etc. - ONLY field names. When I tab through an existing query, I don't want instant popups at every new word in the query - often inadvertently hitting a key so that a totally wrong expansion happens.....
The basic SQL Prompt should pop up ONLY if asked to, and it should be smarter about what to present for selection. I would move the code snippets out of the basic selection ,and make those available thru a separate keystroke - some people use those a lot, others don't at all - always showing those, too, makes things confusing.
