Is there any support for local variables? If not then this is a feature request. For instance say I had

DECLARE @AnInt INT

I would like it available anywhere a column would be. Also having a list of all variables come up when the @ sign is typed (outside the context of a declaration of course) would be another nice feature.

While I've seen this already requested I would like to add my voice: There needs to be a way to make ctrl+space behavior more in line with Visual Studio. I would go as far to say that most developers looking for an "Intellisense" solution come from a Visual Studio background and are looking for the same behavior.

Lastly I know this may be a bit early but...
Do you have any estimates of a release date and pricing?

I figured out the pricing by clicking the "Buy Now" button on the Start up prompt. $95USD

We're aiming to get the product out in 1-2 weeks. The date depends on what the beta program throws up, and how our internal testing goes though.

I purchased v1.4 for $25 US in November 2005. Working for a small non-profit Company, we watch every penny ('cos there aren't many to go around). When the price was $25 for a fairly well supported ADD-IN, it was a good deal - bugs included because productivity increase outweighed the bug impact.

I understand that Red-Gate needs to:
    1. Recoup the product purchase outlay.
    2. Cover bug-fixing efforts.
    3. Cover the "enhancements" efforts - as we don't know what the "Enhancements" are it's somewhat difficult to judge how much that really amounts to.
    4. Cover marketing costs etc. and put some money in the kitty for support costs.

Does all this justify a hike of $70 a copy?

Does $95 for a VS/QA etc ADD-IN sound reasonable? Given that "bulk pricing" may bring the per-copy outlay down, it's still a steep price for an ADD-IN.

Maybe someone needs to reconsider the $$$ aspect...

You're right about all those points.

I'm hoping that even at $95 our users will be able to recoup their inital outlay very quickly. That's about an hour of billable time for a developer / DBA, so payback should be quick.

We're also planning on doing quite a lot with SQL Prompt, and taking it to a wider audience. For $95 a go we can justify doing this. For $25 it becomes difficult.

I reiterate though; all current users will be upgraded for free.

I'd be interested to know what other forum posters think.

For that hourly rate I think I'd like to work for red-gate software

Pity the UK's tax laws prevent your having a cooperative US Development Office... From the tenor of not just this forum, you'd likely be inundated with applicants - even from true "English speakers" like this English expatriate... Do tell, where are those $95/hour contracts? 8) CA seems to lack them for now, unless they're very well hidden...
