How to activate and deactivate your Redgate Monitor licenses when you are not connected to the internet (version 11.2.14 and later)

With the release of Redgate Monitor v11.2.14 users are now able to activate Redgate Monitor subscription licenses offline.

How to activate and deactivate your Redgate Monitor license offline when you do not have a connection to the Redgate licensing Client

  1. Go to the Licensing page in Redgate Monitor (Configuration > Licensing) – in the Licenses table. With this new update you can see whether or not you are connected to the Redgate.com licensing server. If there is a connection (indicated with the green tick) then you can activate your license the regular way (See How to allocate your Redgate Monitor licenses (versions 11.2.3 and later)). If you instead see the below then you are not connected to the Redgate licensing server.mceclip0.png
  2. If you are not connected then you will see the screen above. Click Allocate licenses to Redgate Monitor. This will open the wizard for allocating a license permit.
  3. Step 1 of the wizard will ask you to create a permit file. A link will be provided to you. You will need a computer with internet access for this step. When you follow the link you will be taken to the Redgate Portal page where you will be able to view all of your licenses that you are assigned to as an owner or admin on. screencap1.png
  4. Find the license that you wish to use on your installation and using the - or + buttons to select the number of servers you wish to license. If you are unable to select the number of servers because it tells you that they are currently in use by another installation then please see the troubleshooting steps below this section.screencap2.png
  5. After selecting the number of licenses you need scroll down to the bottom of the page. Here you will see the Download permit file button. Click this to start the permit file download.  Capture.PNG
  6. Now that you have downloaded your permit file you will need to return to your Redgate Monitor installation. You will need to have access to the newly downloaded permit file on your machine running Redgate Monitor. In Step 2 you will need to upload this permit file in order to apply the licenses. Click Apply permit. You can also drag and drop the permit file to the below field.  Capture2.PNG
  7. Find the permit and select it. If the permit is valid then you will see a green tick to confirm this as seen below. To finish, click Apply Permit. Capture3.PNG
  8.  Then click Finish and go to main licensing page.                                                Capture4.PNG

During step 4 above, if you find that you are unable to select the number of licenses you need (example above) for the permit because those licenses appear to be in use by another installation then please follow these steps:

  1. Log on to the Redgate license portal and go to the Manage license section, or alternatively you can also click “View license details” on the 'Create your license permit' page.
  2. Select the applicable license and on the Users tab. You will see something similar to the following (you may see more or fewer activations than this):

  3. Remove any old serial key activations, these look like “Device: xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx”.
  4. Now go back to the 'Create your license permit' page and continue from step 4 above.

How to remove allocations in an offline environment

To deallocate a license or reduce the number of server allocations you are using from a license you would follow the same steps as mentioned above, except this time when you bring up the portal view with your Redgate Monitor licenses you lower the number of licenses. In the previous examples a permit file for 3 license is created, so to reduce the amount you would locate that license and then using the minus symbol you would lower the amount or zero it out to stop using it entirely. Then much the same as before you will need to scroll to the bottom of the page and download the new permit. Then move this permit file over to the offline machine and apply as you did before.

Now after the new permit file has been applied you will see the updated allocation amount in the Redgate Monitor UI:
