Thank you for your help. that fixed it. i ended up removing all the software that was not licensed for my account. sql search still was not working, so i went and downloaded most recent version from redgate and now that is opening as well. it looks like there was a visual studio error being suppressed on the previous version. / comments

when you click on any of the tabs, nothing works or opens. no error message, just nothing happens at all. like i said i can open my ssms 18 on my other jump box, and sql search opens right up. I just want to know if its a compatibility thing or if something is actually wrong with the funcitionality. / comments

Yes i believe i installed those when i downloaded the redgate software for my new jump box. i agree they are different instsalls and tools. I was just curious why those did not work but sql history and prompt work for ssms 19.1.56 / comments
