For me it's the audit side of things. Who checks the home grown scripts? I like the ability to produce a report for audit of what was done, when, and to what. I can also give that report to the information asset owner. As mentioned above, the commercial nature of this solution adds credibility for the auditor. This with the complexity to allow me to mask in a fairly complex way, means it works for me. A command line interface would mean this can become a standard part of my automated UAT build process. / comments

I had an issue with self signed certs in Git repos and RG Source Control (SoC) a couple of weeks ago. On speaking to the RG support team, it seems there is no way to import the cert as trusted to RG SoC. The answer given by the support team was to use a domain signed cert, as the library used by SoC isn't able to use self-signed certs. That isn't an easy change however (affects other things), and we haven't yet got it done. At the moment devs are using a two stage (commit in RG, push in command line) which is a sub optimal workflow.
Sorry I don't have a better answer... / comments

This month, I've been speaking to the Foundry teams both on SQL Census and SQL Data Masking. Both products continue to develop in interesting directions, and are looking like being a good fit for problems I see in my workplace. I've also had a call with Karis about Data Governance. / comments

To build on robrich's point, I think there is perhaps a risk of a 'noob' (lower level) user not being taken as seriously. I wonder if there is a way to encourage new contributors - perhaps something like 'new contributor', to signify that whilst content may be in an unfamiliar style, it's not necessarily inexperienced and shouldn't be perceived in the way that 'noob' is sometimes taken to be an indicator of a lack of knowledge. I suspect that a high proportion of the sites' users will lurk for a while, and only contribute when they have something important or worthwhile to say. Everyone, after all, has to start somewhere. Just my 2p... / comments

Many thanks to everyone at Redgate for the nomination - I'm really pleased that my input has been useful for the team, and I look forward to the continued development of SQL Data Mask into a key part of my professional data toolkit. / comments

This month, I've been continuing to work with the Foundry team on data masking. The work the team have been doing is really moving along, and I know there are very valid uses for such a tool going forward - just this week we have had to change a business process to cope with a lack of availability of such a facility. I'm also starting to discuss with Karis the work he is doing on data governance. Both of these areas are becoming key to our work as we increase focus on audit and regulatory work and prepare for new regulations such as the EU's GDPR. / comments
