Hi,
Yep you are right, SQL Backup will handle the backup's but it is left to the SQL Agent to continue doing the scheduling so for your maintaince plans to work (and your scheduled backups to run) you will need to keep the SQL Agent running.

Hi Sangha,
I was aware of this behaviour and can't quite make my mind up if it is/should be a bug or is the correct behaviour, I can see that it some cases it can be seen as a bug however in other cases (where the drop is temporary and someone intends to recreate the database) I don't think it is a bug. Do you have any strong arguments for getting rid of the activity history which I have not thought of? If so I would be interested in hearing them.
Many thanks,

Thanks for the heads up Brian,
We will get someone to look into this and try and understand what's going on.

Hi Julian,
I have bugs relating to both of these so copy functionality for both will be in the final release - probably on a right click menu and Ctrl-C.
Thanks once again for all the feedback,

Hi Julian,
Thats quite a nice idea, we havn't considered it yet but we might well - if not for the final release of v5 then perhaps v5.2 - although we would probably allow people to use the CONVERT command via the GUI. I.E. EXECUTE master..sqlbackup '-SQL "CONVERT ''C:\backups\pubs.sqb'' TO ''C:\backups\pubs.bak''"'
Thanks for the idea, I have passed it on to our usability team.

Hi Julian,
Could you please check your log files and see if SQL Backup has written anything to them for that attempted backup - they are normally in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Red Gate\SQL Backup\Log\<instance_name> unless the location has been changed in the tools->options menu.
If you could either post the appropriate log file here or email it to me (james.moore >at< red-gate.com) then that would be great.
Thanks,

Hi Uros,
Thanks for the feedback,
There is an issue with the service where by if your local number formatting uses a , rather than a . as the decimal point the service fails writing the activity history to our database and thus the backups and restores do not appear in the grid/timeline.
This will be fixed in the final release. In the mean time you might be able to get around it by setting your number format to use . rather than , as a decimal separator.
Sorry for any inconvience and thanks for letting us know.

There are a few known problems with the remote install in the beta, I would image you have hit one of those. This can happen when the install was unable to get enough permissions to install on the server remotely. If you copy c:\program files\red gate\sql backup\sqbserversetup.exe to the remote server and run in manually it should install without any problems.

Hi Urosd,
Firstly thanks for the feedback,

When you choose another database, the timeline does not refresh. The timline refreshes only when you click on the Activity History tab. This is very disturbing, becouse you never know, if the timline is appropriate for the chosen database.
The timeline refreshes itself every 30 seconds (in the beta you will notice a slight flicker in the dark, future area at present) this flicker will not be there in the final release. Clicking on the activity history tab should not cause a refresh in itself. If you zoom right in you will see the ticker and the "dark gray" future area moving independently, the ticker is "now" the dark gray future area is the present/future at the last update. I hope this explains the behaviour you are seeing.

In general the first fellings with working with the program are good.
Thanks once again and keep the feedback coming even if it seems trivial - every little helps.
Thanks,
