I like the idea of Save/Save As to explicitly save projects. I occasionally compare databases that I do NOT want to create a "project" for. It's just a temporary one-time kind of thing. However, the dialog in previous versions was FAR superior in my opinion.
I actually couldn't even find the recent projects drop-down in the new version at first. I expected the folder icon in the toolbar to open the same "Open File" dialog that the menu used so I didn't ever click it. That's not a huge deal because now that I know it's there I will use it, it just wasn't obvious at first.
Also, I would like to see more than 6 projects in there. 6 is okay for a default, but I should be able to set the number I want to see and the drop-down should scroll if I have more than 6.
Alternately, instead of a "Recently used projects" list, how about a "Favorites" list? / comments

I would keep the "Recently Used" list too.
I think you're going to have a hard time picking a number for "Recently Used" projects that will satisfy everyone. A user-defined setting would be much better. You could probably force the setting to be between 1 and 99. / comments

The information in the drop-down is fine, but it needs to hold more than 6 projects. It should scroll if there are more than 6 - just like any other drop-down does.
Perhaps you could put an option for "Number of items to show in Recent Items list" on the Tools... Options... menu and default it to 6.
Personally, I don't forsee me ever opening a project by file name. I suppose knowing the file name would be good if you needed to share the file with someone else, but the presentation of information in the drop-down list is FAR superior to anything you could ever do with a filename. / comments

We're all just giving our opinions here on how the product works for us in our particular applications, right? I'm not saying the current functionality is sufficient for everyone. I'm saying (quite literally) that it works for me. / comments

Just wanted to mention that I am also a frequent user of the "switch direction" feature. Re-comparing wouldn't be a deal-breaker for me, although not re-comparing is obviously better.
In my case, we have several developers all modifying their local database. They then push their changes to the QA database. So, when it's my turn to push my changes, I sync in one direction. Then, to get the changes from the other developers I sync in the other direction.
This is also why I would like to have finer-grained sync capabilities. I may want to sync Table1.Index1 in one direction (an index created by me) then Table1.Index2 in the other direction (an index created by someone else). It would also be nice to be able to sync particular table columns. Right now, if I find that someone else has added columns to a table that I have modified, I have to manually make their changes in my DB then re-compare.
Don't take any of that as criticism. Even if SQL Compare didn't generate an update script at all it would still be an invaluable tool. I'm just giving my 2 cents. / comments

For me, SSMS 2005 is enabled and SSMS 2008 is disabled which is correct. However, "Custom program" is selected by default and the sync wizard fails to open the script using "isqlw.exe". / comments
