Thanks Eddie. What I'm looking to replace is a tool to "visually build" the databases. The Dependency Tracker is very nice, but it's more of an after the fact visualization tool. It's not helpful to building the tables directly or the foreign key relationships. With SSMS abandoning the visual diagram tool, there is going to be a population of Database designers that are looking for a replacement. / comments

I did further testing with my local installation of SQL 2008 R2, and SQL Compare v10. I get the same behaviour as reported earlier with my client's MS SQL installation.
It's definitely SQL Compare v10, because I tested v9 and that did not exhibit the auto-checking behaviour. / comments
