Hi Randy,
This sounds very similar to the problems reported by mikeh on this forum.
Which version of SQL Prompt are you using? SQL Prompt 5.1.8 was released on 2 August and addressed some of these issues. If you're not on this version already, could you give it a try?

Hi Dmitry,
Our bug tracking database isn't open to the public. The issue number is made available as a reference for future conversations.
We'd love to be able to fix every bug in a few weeks, we really would, but we do have to prioritise our development resources. To address these Smart Rename issues would involve major work on the core engine, and as such would need to be examined very carefully to be scheduled into a release. One of the factors we take into account is the number of users who have reported the issue.
When the time comes to plan a new major release it will be considered, but we can't make any promises at this stage.
I'm sorry this isn't quite the answer you're hoping for, but I hope it explains the situation a little.

You can get old versions of Red Gate products at http://www.red-gate.com/downgrade . You'll need to uninstall your current version from the Control Panel before installing an older SQL Prompt.
I'll post back here when we have a new release that improves the situation, so that you can get back onto the latest version.

Thanks to help from atompkins, the developers have traced the slowdown to a build setting that inadvertently changed between 5.1.4 and 5.1.6, and which slowed down some of the parsing code.
Meanwhile, we've spotted some other optimisations that should speed things up as well. Subject to testing, we hope to get these out in the next bug-fix release.
I appreciate everyone's patience in this matter.

Hi dippies,
Does the slowness start when you open a SQL script? It may be that some particular SQL constructs are making SQL Prompt struggle. If so, please send a copy of your script to support@red-gate.com so we can investigate.

Hi sbenson,
That sounds puzzling. Many users have upgraded to 5.1.6.35 without issue so it doesn't seem to be a widespread problem.
What version of SQL Prompt were you upgrading from?
How did you notice that you were on Standard Edition? Did the About box say so or was there particular functionality that no longer worked?

Hi both,
We have discovered a scenario where if you activated SQL Prompt Pro through a different product in a Red Gate bundle (SQL Compare, say), and afterwards upgrade SQL Prompt to version 5.1.6, then your SQL Prompt reverts to Standard edition. Strange but true.
As you've discovered, the workaround is reactivating SQL Prompt itself, which restores the Professional Edition functionality.
Thanks for bringing this issue to our attention. The developers are now looking at it.

Hi Jason,
Thanks for spotting and reporting this so quickly. You're right that there does seem to be a problem with some users upgrading from 5.1.4 to 5.1.6 during a trial period.
We're very sorry for the inconvenience and have suspended updates to 5.1.6 while we investigate the matter and produce a fixed version.
If any other users reading this have the same problem, please contact support@red-gate.com and we'll be able to help you.

Hi jase74,
Thanks for your bug report and I'm sorry SQL Prompt is causing you problems.
We believe this is caused by a bug in the installation of some Microsoft components that unregister a DLL needed by SQL Prompt. Please try the following from a Command Prompt: regsvr32 "%commonprogramfiles%\microsoft shared\msenv\textmgrp.dll"
