We aren't currently planning on certification against these standards. This is something we are keeping under observation, and it would be interesting to know your specific needs -- eg, why you need these certifications (business drivers), levels of certification required, etc. Please feel free to post or email me directly on this.
Thanks,

... and whilst I can't reveal my hand regarding our planning for future releases of SQL Backup, I can say that the features you request are under active consideration.
And your question about SQL Server 2008 is answered in another post (here): in brief, SQL Backup 5.3 is already working with SQL Server 2008 CTP.
Thanks for the feedback, please keep it coming!

Hi Mark,
There's an article in the Support Center, on why we consider this to be best practice. See here for details, but a key reason is that network errors can result in no backup being made. So if you have the space available on your local drive, our recommended best practice is to back up locally, and then copy across the network. In this manner, if there's a network error during the file transfer, you still have a local backup. Obviously not everyone is in the fortuitous position to have the available local disk space.
Thanks for the suggested feature request, this is something we're considering for a future release.

Thanks for this suggestion. We always like to hear suggestions on how we can improve our products, and whilst we can't promise to implement them in the next release, we can promise to take them into consideration.

Many thanks for this suggestion. It would be interesting to find out how wide-spread is the interest in merging backups -- if this is something other people could see themselves using on a regular basis, please do add a post to this thread, with any other information you think is relevant.

Thanks everyone for your feedback. We've been asked for this by lots of people, and it is one of the priority candidates for the next release. So unless some "gotcha" comes up, our aim is that this will be in the next release of SQL Multi Script. We don't have a date for this yet, but when we do we'll update the Red Gate roadmap here.
Thanks,

Hi,
There's a Microsoft feedback portal, for Azure SQL Database feature requests - this would be the place to make such a request, so please feel free to hassle them! :-) http://feedback.azure.com/forums/217321-sql-database

Just to add to this:
There are some blog posts to introduce people to the schema. Whilst these are a bit old (early 2013), most of the changes since they were written have been additive to the schema, rather than changing the schema. They might help as a starting point. https://www.simple-talk.com/blogs/author/198217-chris-lambrou/
Also, for situations where you want a very long duration time series, but don't want to keep all the core monitoring data, some customers are using Custom Metrics. This has a couple of benefits of this approach:
- You can configure separate purge settings for the Custom Metrics data;
- You can configure the collection frequency from once per minute to once per day; so again this can limit the volume of data, and can be especially useful for less volatile, slowly changing data.
Hope this helps,
