Hi,
Sorry you're having issues with Compare. What you are seeing is normally caused by the different way we calculate the differences between your objects in our comparison engine, and the way we highlight lines in the lower grid of the UI. The comparison engine has a much deeper understanding of your objects, where as the UI will only highlight differences in the textual definition of objects. This sometimes leads to items being marked as different in the engine (and therefore appearing as different in the upper grid) but making you unable to see what has changed in the text definition.
Based on what you're saying about the objects still being marked as different following a deployment, it sounds like we have a bug in our comparison code. Please could you contact our support team so we can get some more specifics from you and get this fixed.
Following our update to the UI this is one of the areas we plan to work on next. We want to bring the more semantic list of differences that the comparison engine provides into the UI. This will mean if you see strange differences like this again we will show why we consider the two objects to be different rather than just showing you the textual definition of the objects. / comments

Hi,
We're released a fix for this issue today (12.0.28.3138).
We changed the default behaviour of projects loaded from our SSMS plugin to always include all objects in a build last week (items introduced since 2014 would previously be excluded). Unfortunately this introduced the behaviour you are seeing when a project created in v11 would have issues toggling some object types. Apologies for any issues this has caused. / comments

Hi, We'd be interested in hearing more about your use case with larger databases:
- Are you trying to migrate all data in the database, or a subset?
- Do you tend to always sync the same databases or is it more ad-hoc?
- Have you previously tried to make use of the command line for these? (We've designed it specifically around unattended deployments) If you have, what did you find was missing when compared with the fast deploy option in the GUI?
I'd also like to follow up on your timestamp request, do you have a reference or link so I can look into it? / comments

Hi Curtis,
Are you saying in your sample above that you'd like to see a list of all the columns in the table that have any differences in their data? Thinking of other cases, what would expect to see when there was added or removed rows, would you expect to see all columns listed? / comments

Hi,
Sorry to hear that you're experiencing some issues with the latest version of SQL Data Compare.
Issues relating to the performance of the tool are usually very difficult for us to help resolve without looking at the specifics of your database and usage of the tool. Would you mind contacting our support team referencing this thread so we can get some further details from you?
I was wondering if I could ask a few follow up questions with some of your other feedback.
- When selecting the tabs in the lower difference pane, does data eventually load into the grid without selecting the other tabs? Its interesting to know if its being slow to render or failing to render.
- By the quick-filtering option in the project windows/dialog are you referring to the custom open project dialog that was present in V11? We removed this to simplify the number of custom dialogs we had when a standard windows option was available. We'd be interested to know what tasks this makes more difficult in your workflow and see what we can do to improve them.
- On the "target" and "source positioning, where were you switching these in the V11 UI? We still have the ability to switch direction on the main comparison grid using "Actions -> Switch deployment direction" or the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+d.
- I've managed to reproduce the issue you are seeing with the main grid changing deployment direction, when in the new project dialog. I'll keep this thread updated as to when we have a fix for this issue.

Hi Morten,
I'm pleased to say we've fixed the issue you were experiencing with changing deployment direction on a new project and it impacting any open project in the latest release (12.0.19).
With regard to the progress dialog when reversing the deployment direction. We have changed how this works in V12 due to a number of bugs that would only occur when the deployment direction was reversed. Rather than try to be clever and recalculate all of the differences in the opposite direction, we now reapply your mappings and do another comparison. This improves the reliability of our deployments and ensure the behaviour is the same regardless of which way you deploy. We cache the registration of the databases so this operation should be very quick. I'd be interested to know if you're experiencing issues with this new behaviour and what we could do to improve it.

Hi Perry,
We don't currently have support for temporal tables, always encrypted and stretch tables when using a filter function. All these features and further improvements to our 2016 support will be coming to V12 over the coming months. While we provided some early 2016 support in V11, our official supported version of Compare and Data Compare for SQL Server 2016 will be V12.

Hi Perry,
We added support for connecting to SQL Server 2016 instances in 11.2.3. The latest V11 release is 11.6.11, which I highly recommend upgrading to. You can see what updates are available at any time by clicking "Help -> Check for updates" within the tool.
Full support for all features of SQL Server 2016 will be available in SQL Compare 12, which we are currently working on. The latest version of V12 is now available via frequent updates if you would like to try it out.
