I just saw the nice little triangle. I didn't realize before that it was a tool tip type icon. I got the message that you can't set custom compareison keys for backups.
Could you explain a little why that is? / comments

Thanks Brian. After a wasted 4 hours...I found what was blocking it. It's not officially a firewall, but an "antivirus anti mass-emailing worm" piece was set to block anything on port 25 except listed exclusions. Of course this antivirus is controlled at a much higher level on the corporate chain, so I had no idea it was there. Once I added SQBCoreService.exe to the exclude from blocking section...All is well.
D'OH! Just another day in IT

That worked, Thanks.
Of course, I understand that properly specifying your columns on an insert operation will avoid any issues that may arrise from the columns being in a different order, but it still seems like it should be a more basic/default option...to me anyway.
Anyway, thanks for the answer medwards! / comments

Thank you for your responses. As far as permissions go, both the SQL Backup agent and the user I used to test xp_msver have sys admin rights to the sql server in question.
My plan for now is to do the install and run with the extended stored procedure. At a future time, I will try to rerun the SP4 Install. I have a feeling my problem is in there somewhere, as I didn't do the install. I have no way of knowing if it completely successfully or not.
Thanks again,

I agree. It's interesting that Microsoft obviously saw the problem, because they worked around it when you have SSMS create a script.
Oh well. Thankfully, I just purchased the Developer Bundle, which includes SQL Refactor, so I'm good to go. [image]
Unfortunately, I think you'll have others seeing this as a problem, even though it may not, technically, be your fault.
Good luck.
Thanks,
