When they originally announced v7, they also announced that v6 would expire at the end of May. The only options would be to pay for the upgrade or stop using the tool.
In other words, they didn't just want a small amount of money for the new version of the tool; they wanted every existing user of the old version to pay as well.
I don't understand why you (and others like you) find it so hard to understand the problems with that approach.
Thankfully, they (at least partially) reversed that decision a few weeks ago, but that was only after months of complaints from the people you're now telling to "grow the hell up". / comments

They were planning to expire v6 and force everyone to upgrade, but they've had a change of heart: [image] http://www.reflector.net/2011/04/why-we-reversed-some-of-our-reflector-decision/ / comments

Welcome to the cluster-fudge that is Reflector v7.
You're a little late to the party - some of us have been complaining about this decision for months. If you look through this forum, you'll see just how seriously our complaints were taken. / comments

Fair enough, but imagine this:
You drive down a toll-free road every day on your way to work.
Your government decides it wants some more money, so it's going to introduce a toll on that road.
Knowing that everyone will simply bypass that road to avoid the toll, they decide to back-date the toll and charge anyone who's driven down that road in the last ten years.
Would you think that was acceptable? / comments

My argument is that they should be giving away the v6 to the community and plod ahead with newer versions that require payment.
Then we'll have to agree to agree - that's my argument as well. [image]
But that doesn't imply that anyone needs to maintain v6; if it works for our requirements, we should be able to continue using it as-is. / comments

Ah, but there's a difference between "continue to do something" and "do something forever". I might say, "I'll continue to drink beer", but when the beer runs out (or I pass out), I'll stop.
Unfortunately for us, RedGate's beer ran out, so they stopped giving Reflector away. I don't think we can argue that they should be required to continue giving it away forever. However, I still think they were wrong to take v6 away and try to force everyone to upgrade. / comments

Are you looking at the assemblies in the "Program Files\Reference Assemblies" folder? Those assemblies have the XML doc-comments, but are just empty stubs for Intellisense. The real assemblies are in the "Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework" folder. / comments

Oh, and it's "computer", not "computor" - but then I guess we couldn't expect someone who's been working with them for thirty years to know how to spell them?! :P / comments

I strongly object to RedGate's decision to expire v6 and force users to pay for the upgrade. A free version of a tool should remain free for as long as it works, even if the new version costs money.
However, I don't think their decision is justification for running a cracked copy of v7. If you want to run v7, you should pay for it. / comments
