Indeed- that's exactly what profiling and optimisation is all about- finding out where the bottleneck is. Very often you can't do anything about it directly but at least you know you can't so then you move on. / comments

Yes- I agree about the lack of any failure message.
Are you searching in the "method grid" view ( as opposed to the "call-graph" view? Have you ensured you have deselected all the filtering options (such as the "Hide Insignificant methods" checkbox ))- only then are you searching on all the data.
ANTS filters out lots of information to try to clarify where the hotspots are but this has the effect of rendering search less useful. / comments
