You purchase a per-user license; by default you will need to deactivate the license on the previous machine before using it on the next machine, but talk to Sales and you may be able to get extra activations for this use case. / comments

I'm afraid it's been like that for a very long time now. One thing you might want to look at is using an XML argfile rather than a project file: see https://documentation.red-gate.com/sc13/using-the-command-line/using-xml-to-specify-command-line-arguments for more details. / comments

Not currently - the object names aren't encrypted, they're compressed (because you can end up with some very large project files otherwise). Instead of trying to use the project file, you can generate an XML report of a comparison (either via the command line or Generate Comparison Report from the Tools menu), which you may be able to use in a similar fashion? / comments

I've had a quick look at triggers seperated from their tables and basic cases seem to be working fine. Could you give me an example of the kind of files you're using and the problems you're coming across? (Ideally you'd send a couple of files that are demonstrating the problem to michelle.taylor@red-gate.com, but if you can't release any of the files, things like 'how are the names of the tables and triggers written - schema-qualified, database-qualified, quoted, bracketed? Anything else odd with the names?' and 'how many tables/triggers to a file?' would be useful to know.) / comments

I'm investigating the seperate files with triggers problem, I have this nasty suspicion we might have broken that when fiddling with what ALTER statements the parser would accept or reject. Thanks for bringing it up.
We've fixed a few bugs with the mappings tab since the beta went out - what exactly do you mean by a 'mapping error', so I can try to reproduce your problem and see if we've fixed it? I know we had trouble changing mappings after you'd set some up and then changed data sources.
The reports have always only included those objects which were selected (the help file mentions this) but previously this was usually all of the objects because SQL Compare defaulted to selecting all of the objects for synchronization. We're thinking about how we might change the reporting behaviour now we're defaulting to having nothing selected - one of the leading options is to have a check box to choose whether to include all objects or only selected objects in the report. Do you have any thoughts on how we should handle this?
What was the parser error that you got when SQL Compare couldn't parse the files you're having trouble with? Maybe we can help you track down the reason - if you could send us the files themselves (to support@red-gate.com or to michelle.taylor@red-gate.com) that would of course be very helpful, as well as the section of the log file from the registration attempt when the parsing failed (you can enable logging and view the log file from the 'icon menu' in the very top left of the window).
The feature request to filter out certain file names from consideration in a script folder is interesting and I've filed it in our feature request system (SC-4239, if you're interested) but it's unlikely to get implemented for 8.0. / comments

We are in fact currently working on fixing this problem and hopefully we'll get it in the release version of 8.0 (although obviously as we haven't finished working on it we can't promise anything yet). / comments

Okay, it looks like we had some problems with the backup dialog when the target server didn't have SQL Backup installed. We have now fixed them locally and the release version of SQL Compare 8 will be able to perform native backups on machines which have never heard of SQL Backup [image] . Sorry for the inconvenience, and thanks for reporting the problem. / comments

Having that step 3 of the wizard at all makes the wizard longer for someone who would otherwise have unchecked the 'make a schema snapshot or take a backup' check box, though.
With the box checked, the wizard is four steps, whereas without it checked, it's only 3. As far as I understand your proposed solution would have four steps for everyone, which might seem like an insignificant difference but other customers have asked us to eliminate as many clicks as possible from this wizard in the past. / comments

If you uncheck the 'Create schema snapshot or back up target before synchronization' check box on the first page of the wizard, it will not prompt you to back up your database.
(You can also use the radio buttons on the side of the Backup step of the wizard to choose to create a schema snapshot rather than doing a backup of the database.)
I'll look into the sqlbackup problem - that sounds like you might have found a bug  . / comments

What permissions does the user have that you're running SQL Compare with? It looks like the user is lacking one of the permissions needed for running SQL Compare (see http://www.red-gate.com/supportcenter/C ... 000072.htm for details). / comments
