I think you are after the Force column order option in the more options dialog. Note that this option will be moving in the final release.

Yep, but is called Ignore Collations. Currently it is in the Project Configuration > Options > More options dialog.
As a side note, this will change at the release as we are doing away with the more options dialog. There will only be one dialog with all the options on it and yes you will be able to set up your own defaults [image] .

Back in the mists of 2004 we did do a product called DTS Compare, which had this functionality. When we upgraded the product the functionality got dropped for various reasons. We may look into resurrecting this feature in the future, but I cannot say if or when at the moment.

Yes we could add some code to make sure that the default third party application is detected intelligently. However, we felt that as most users would only ever change this option once, it wasn't a major issue and therefore we should direct our efforts elsewhere.
Also as SQL 2000 and 2005 scripts can in both QA and SSMS we feel that changing the application depending on the target is not necessary when both QA and SSMS are installed.
Sorry, but hope this explains our reasoning.

Unfortunately everyone works different ways, whilst you only want the objects in the source database, another user may want users in the source database and the objects in both that are different.
We feel that whilst there a few extra clicks in the current process it is the best way at the moment for everyone.
SQL Compare v4 used to have status filters which I really liked and might have helped you in this situation (as you wouldn't have to navigate the grid to filter from sync). They got cut in v5 and I have been trying ever since to get them back in. Especially now we have the group by object type and no grouping option. However, time restrictions meant that these filters haven't made it this time, I will however keep pushing for this though.

just to add to the above topic,
if i want to select new tables only, there is no easy way of doing it.
I take it that the object filters aren't helping you with this? / comments

Hi there,
May I ask what you mean by only new objects? If you mean objects that only exist in the source database then there is a method for doing this.
1) Select group by difference type
2) Select the "None" button on the only in target and in both but different grouping bars in the main grid.
If I have miss understood your problem can you post and example and we will see that we can do to address it.

Hi there,
I am not quite sure what you are describing here, are you saying that you would like to remove the grouping on the main grid? If so that is possible by using the "Group By" drop down on the top right of the main grid, and selecting No grouping.
Hope this helps,

We think we have a fix for this issue, but the problem we have is that this error message can occur for a number of reasons. The first step to debuging the problem is for you to run a SQL Server profiler trace as the databases are registering. Stop profiler after the error has occur and send me the trace. I will then advise you as to the next steps, if you have some example schema of the problem that would be useful too.

Richard,
Yeah we do need to finish of the tooltips, however I am informed the icon and display of the button are expected behaviour. Can I enquire what Windows theme you are using?
