Hi Hulit,
there is no need to go in and delete the compiled ASP.NET assemblies from the Framework directory - ANTS Profiler will simply profile them when they are loaded up by the CLR.
Many thanks for your input though,

Hi,
thanks for the details. You are probably not getting a log file because the ASPNET user account does not have disk write access. The ANTS Profiler service runs under the ASPNET user account. Please use the control panel to change the priviliges.
You may well be correct that having .NET 2.0 beta installed is causing the problem. Only the log file will tell us for sure.
Thanks,

Hi,
my name is Tom Harris; I'm responsible for the development of ANTS Profiler here at Red Gate. Could you answer a few standard questions for us -
1) What operating system are you running (including any service packs)?
2) What version of the .NET Framework does your ASP.NET application run against?
3) What other versions of the .NET Framework are installed on your machine?
4) What version of IIS are you running?
Also, could you enable ANTS Profiler logging by creating the directory C:\Program Files\Red Gate\ANTS Profiler\Logs. All logs will be created in this directory.
To get logging for ASP.NET profiling you will need to stop and restart the ANTS Profiler service from the control panel. Could you please send the log file servicelog.txt through to support@redgate.com
Best regards,

Hi Tom,
my name is Tom Harris; I'm responsible for ANTS Profiler here at Red Gate. I remember your name from the beta program that we ran for ANTS Profiler 2.5 (was called 2.1 at the time). It sounds like you have run into a bug with instrumenting your code. I'd be very keen to try and get to the bottom of it. There are a couple of things that we can try-
1) Enable profiler logging by creating the directory C:\Program Files\Red Gate\ANTS Profiler\Logs. When you run the profiler a text file corelog.txt will be created that will show what assemblies have been loaded. This should give us a clue as to which module is causing the problem.
2) Only profile certain namespaces by setting up a 'Custom filter' in the project wizard.
Do let me know how you get on,
Regards,

Hi there,
this is the first time we have had a problem with getting ANTS Profiler started. I'm afraid that I can only offer some basic ideas. Could you completely uninstall any version of ANTS Profiler that you have currently installed? Next, delete the directory C:\Program Files\Red Gate\ANTS Profiler and then reinstall ANTS Profiler 2.5 again.
I'm sorry that I can't offer anything more concrete but we have not seen anything like this before. We will conduct some testing here to see if we can reproduce the crash.

Hi there,
we have tested this on a machine running German version of XP Pro with .NET 1.1. ANTS profiler runs normally. I'm afraid that I am still no wiser as to what might have gone wrong on your particular machine.

Hi,
my name is Tom Harris; I'm responsible for the development of ANTS Profiler here at Red Gate. From your callstack I cannot really see what might be causing the problem. Is the error happening when you a) start ANTS Profiler, or b) when you try and start profiling your application? If the answer is b) and you are profiling ASP.NET then please try the following
At the command line type regsvr32 shdocvw.dll
If this does not fix the problem then please let us know exactly what you are doing to cause the error.
Best regards,

Hi there,
my name is Tom Harris; I'm responsible for the development of ANTS Profiler here at Red Gate. I was interested to see that you are using the product with the managed DirectX libraries. I think that you have now realized where the problem lies - the actual memory is not being allocated by managed code. This is because the Microsft.DirectX.DirectSound assembly is basically just a .NET wrapper over the native implementation.
ANTS Profiler can only profile the memory and peformance of .NET code. You will need to get a memory profiler for native code if you want to investigate the actual memory usage under the hood.

Hi there,
I think that there may have been a small misunderstanding. It sounds like you may have run into a user interface glitch with the docking component that we use in the results view. If you have lost a panel and it does not come back when you use the View->Source code menu option then you can restore the layout back to the default as follows -
Close ANTS Profiler
Delete the registry entry
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Red Gate\ANTS Profiler\DockingLayout
Restart ANTS Profiler
Do let me know if this works out,
Tom Harris
