Hi Pete,
Thanks for letting us know what's going on there. I'd be hesitant to post the queries that SQL Compare uses to get schema information from the database for the reason that the queries are subject to change. Plus, there is a whole different set of queries used in the case of SQL Server 2005! / comments

Hello Pete,
That could well be the problem. It's impossible to create a full-text index in SQL Server without assigning a name to it. What does the full-text catalogs container look like in Enterprise Manager when you open it for this database? / comments

Hello,
Thanks for the information -- it is important to know that your SQL Backup version is at 5.3 because the file browser behavior changed again in 5.4.
In 5.3 server components, the SQL Backup file browser uses a combination of a delegated credential of the SQL Server service account and the SQL Backup Agent service startup account, so both accounts need access to your network resource in order to browse it. In addition, the SQL Server account impersonation requires you to be a local administrator on the SQL Server if you connect the SQL Backup Console using Windows Authentication. If you connect using a SQL account, you need to set the "AllowSqlBrowsing" registry key.
Simple, no? :-)
In 5.4, the file browser impersonates the Windows user running the SQL Backup console, which brings in its' own different issues. / comments

Hi Gary,
It looks like someone made an executive decision that the ability to load and save results in version 5 of the profilers would only be available in the "professional edition" of the tools: http://www.red-gate.com/products/ants_p ... /index.htm
If you go to Help->about, I'll bet is says "standard edition...". / comments

Can you please let us know whether the program affected is Performance or Memory profiler, and if there were any errors along the way in getting the results set. You cannot save the current set of results if they are not valid or not loaded. / comments

Hello Ryan,
I don't know of any way, published or non-published, to increase the timeout of the SQL Backup mail module. I guess that what is happening is that the mail has succeeded, but SQL Backup is timing out while waiting for an acknowledgement from the SMTP server. If that's the case, I think the desired behavior would be to report an error, since the software can't determine whether the mail was sent successfully or not.
You can try running an SMTP test from the SQL Server and actually read the messages that the mail server is sending -- maybe that would help you work out what the mail server is doing. Please see Microsoft's website for the instructions on how to test an SMTP connection using telnet: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/153119 / comments

Hi SQLGuy,
I haven't seen SQL Backup 6 trigger any messages from DEP before, although we had a spate of incidences with this back in the version 4 days.
If this is becoming a problem again, I'd encourage anyone having this problem to contact support [at] red-gate.com so we can get to the bottom of it!
SQBCoreService.exe is the component of SQL Backup that does the lion's share of the work and is the only dedicated process that SQL Backup uses. Everything else is done in the extended stored procedure (xp_sqlbackup.dll) which is running in-process with SQL Server. Therefore if you need to get up and running quickly, excluding all instances of SQBCoreService.exe will stop DEP from shutting down SQL Backup on the SQL Server. / comments

I had a look back through our records and found that historically, there have only been problems with DEP when doing the licensing and activation of SQL Backup. The last known issue regarding DEP was successfully closed out in 2007. / comments

Hi Mulham,
You can set up projects using SQL Compare and save them to project files on disk. You can then run the project from the command-line using SQLCompare.exe, if you have a "Professional Edition" licence.
Scheduling the comparison/synchronization can then be done using Windows scheduled tasks or the "at" command.
I hope this helps. / comments
