Official commentHi Lucille,
Thanks for reaching out to Redgate Support. Sorry to hear you're having some trouble getting your query results to open in Excel.
I've tested this on my own machine, with the same versions of both Prompt and SSMS and the query results opened successfully. So it looks like this might be something specific to your setup.
A common cause of this is Excel no longer being the default program for the relevant file type. If another app has taken over that file association, SSMS's request to open Excel could be getting silently redirected or ignored. Could you check:- Right-click a .xlsx or .csv file on your machine
- Choose "Open with" > "Choose another app"
- Confirm Excel is set as the default
Let us know if that resolves it, or if it's still not opening, we can dig further.

Hi,
When I try to open query results in Excel from SSMS, Excel does not open.
Could you please help me troubleshoot this issue?
Environment:
There are no error messages displayed; Excel simply does not open when I select the option to open the results in Excel from SSMS.
Thank you for your assistance.
Kind regards,
Lucille Jensen
