Backup directly to hosted storage (Azure Storage Container)

Hello,

due to space constraints on the virtual machine, I would like to backup only to hosted storage I.e. to azure storage account container.

I use the Redgate SQL Backup config of both local and hosted storage backup copies but using the SQL Backup GUI to setup single backup to hosted storage, I’m unable to move to the next prompt unless I specify a backup location on disk/UNC path.

Is there a way to achieve backups only to hosted storage? Maybe through the execute sql command?

    Good Afternoon,

Thanks for your inquiry with Redgate SQL Backup.

Unfortunately, there currently isn't a way to send a copy of a full backup to cloud storage without first taking a backup locally. Apologies for the inconvenience that this brings.

Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.

    Thanks!

SQL Server 2022 now natively supports backing up and restoring from S3 directly.  No landing zone with upload required.  My question to Redgate and the Redgate backup team is this.  Is the ability to backup directly to and restore directly from S3 a feature on the SQLBackup roadmap? And if so, any ETA?
