Problem creating a SQL Clone image on a network share

I installed SQL Clone today and it all works when the image destination is a local drive on the SQL server that also hosts the Clone Server. But when I use a network share such as \\sqlbackups\sql_database_backups$\SQLBAK\Clones it fails every time and returns this error message 
The process cannot access the file because another process has locked a portion of the file.
any help is appreciated.

    Have you had any changes in file security and/or virus scanning on the system where Clone is running? We have seen some scenarios where file access is restricted by an external factor which prevents clone from generating it's virtual disk image.
