How can we help you today? How can we help you today?

intellsense super slow

It hangs on "Processing Parameters" for a very long time every time I connect to a new connection.

It used to be very fast.

Anyway to speed this up?

    @leon_cao What version are you running?  Are these on premise?  Can you turn on verbose logging and upload the logs captured when this is occurring?

    Hi Leon_cao

    If you're troubleshooting a problem, you can turn on verbose logging to see more information in the log files.

    To do this, under SQL Prompt > Help, click Enable Verbose Logging.

    Then in the same area, you will find another button for Zip Log Files that you can use to zip up the log files after you see this issue again. Alternatively, Locate Log Files will take you to the Log Directory if you prefer to look at a single log file entry.

    I noticed that my team member was having the same issue when he upgraded to SSMS 20, and I think I started having that issue at that time, too.
    I also found that randomly, my IntelliSense would just disappear.

    I have been having the same issue.  I initially noticed this with version 10.14.22.11347.  I tried updating to version 10.14.23.11448 but it still happens.  I tried downgrading to 10.14.21.9884 and it's still happening so I updated again to 10.14.23.11448.  It hangs on Processing parameters for over 15 minutes sometimes.  Sometimes, when I'm lucky it only takes 4 or 5 minutes.  This is very frustrating.

    Good Afternoon @DamnDirtyApe & @leon_cao,

    First of all, appreciate both of you including your logs in debug. Reviewing both, I am seeing that the parameters portion of the loading appears to always be the longest lead item. I have this escalated internally and am doing some further analysis on this, I will come back here and update you further once I have a bit more.

    Good Afternoon @DamnDirtyApe & @leon_cao,

    I confirmed that in the recent update of Prompt, Default values of Stored Procedure Parameters are now being displayed in suggestions. Which was in 10.14.22.11347

    We are currently testing performance between different versions of Prompt to confirm if this is indeed update related. Would either of you be able to downgrade to version 10.14.21.9884, of prompt and then run a few tests and re-attach the verbose logs here? We can then compare how long it took to load between versions and see if there is a causal relationship.

    Thank you

    Thanks @DamnDirtyApe for the requested files.

    I have reviewed the findings and there does indeed seem to be credence to investigate this further as a performance issue. Once i have more for you from the Developers on some next steps, I will circle back here and let you know.

    Updated to version 10.15.0.12121 this morning and I'm still experiencing the performance issue (and some other unknown errors added to the log).

    @DamnDirtyApe & @leon_cao

     Thank you for the continued assistance while this gets troubleshot by development. Could I have you each confirm the exact Database type you are using in conjunction with SQL Prompt?

    @DamnDirtyApe & @leon_cao

    Fix has now been released for this issue. Could I kindly have you install the following update for SQL Prompt and confirm that your loading speeds have improved?

    SQLPrompt_10.16.0.13262.exe

    I've finally installed 10.16.0.13262.0 and the loading time for Processing parameters does appear to be much improved.  I'll post here if I have further problems with the issue.  Thank you!
