In regards to the "hit" on performance, this is hard to say, as it comes down to CPU, available RAM and HDD/network speeds. As Grant (from the article) says about the verify, "That can be a costly operation if the backup file is very large, so I don’t know that I’d run this check from my production system if I could help it.".

If yes, what is the "hit" in terms of processing speed? A lot of our databases are either hundreds of GBs and a few are TB in size.
