MySQL8 - Unable to cast object of type 'System.Byte[]' to type 'System.String'

When trying to use MySQL Compare on a v8 server, I'm getting the error "Unable to cast object of type 'System.Byte[]' to type 'System.String'". Is there a workaround available?
