New to SQL Monitor and need to know what to monitor, how to determine what should be monitored to ensure sql server is performing at it's best. I know basic stuff like processor, ram, disk, etc. but more specifically on sql side, so far i think i need to monitor exspensive queries, wait time, and blocking processes, but are there others that would be a good indication of what should be baselined or looked at?

For information like what you're requesting, I would highly suggest checking out our Redgate university, where it will cover aspects of what you have mentioned. The link for that is below:

Along the ones you've mentioned above, you can check long running queries, top 10 queries, top 10 waits and query execution to name a few.
