Login failed for user - trying to add Azure SQL Server to Monitor

I am trying to add an Azure SQL server into SQL Monitor but I get a "login failed for user 'domain\login' error.  I have tried both my domain login and the AD account we have used for our on-prem servers with the same result.  Can someone advise what, if any, Azure roles (owner, contributor, etc) the chosen monitoring account needs to be in to allow the connection to succeed?

Hi @jonesricThe account used to monitor your Azure SQL Server must be the server admin account used to create the Azure SQL Server (mentioned at bottom of https://rd.gt/3prdnN3).

Hi @Ben_P thanks for that.  I found the same part of the documentation over the weekend.  Now to speak to the team who created the server(s).

Hi @Ben_P to clarify, in our Azure portal when looking at the resource, it should be the login shown as the Server Admin in the Essentials section?

    Server admin: xxxxxxx
