I had to uninstall SQL Prompt in order to get SSMS to launch successfully. Tried to reinstall SQL Prompt and the behavior returned.

I had to do the same - they should pull the 'update.'

Wow - downloaded product - totally smokes SSMS again. Unhandled Microsoft .NET Framework exception occurred in [2196]. Uninstalling - I have work to do.

Hi @SignantOzzie @Stevie
Sorry to hear you're experiencing trouble with SQL Prompt. Could you confirm if SSMS crashes immediately on startup, or crashes once you start using SSMS.
Thanks,
Owen -
Doesn't even make it to selecting the server - tried to do it twice - hard no on that update working.

@ostandage Thank you for checking in Owen.In my case, SSMS crashes before even the connection dialogue appears.

@ostandage Have there been any updates regarding a fix?

Hi,
We released a fix in 10.6.14 for a crash which was some users, however I'm not sure it will fix your issue as we've not seen a complete crash on startup. I've passed this over to our support team who should be able to assist you more. In the meantime it may be worth trying 10.6.14 to see if the problem is still there.
Thanks,

Hi SignantOzzie
I am going to need to take a look at your log files as well. So i am going to email you from a ticket shortly. -
@ostandage Good morning Owen,When applying the latest update of SQL Compare, SSMS has been able to launch successfully.

Hello, Since updating to version 10.6.15 I am having constant crashes occuring in SSMS (v18.9.1)
These occur after having it open for less than 5 minutes and under a variety of typed conditions there's no real consistency as to what was being typed. Typing the start of a variable name in a WHERE clause seems to cause the issue instantly however. I have sent the error reports through for further diagnosis.
Are you able to provide a download link for the installer for version 10.6.14 which had no such issues? -
Never mind about the link sorry I found the link in a seperate forum post to do with SSMS autocomplete crashing this version.
